MATERIALS USED
The majority of the jewelry that you see on our website is created with 14K gold-filled, .925 sterling silver otherwise known as Demi-Fine.
An increasingly popular and affordable option is PVD 316L Gold Stainless. You can read more in the journal about the properties of these metals.
14k Gold-fill, .925 Sterling Silver and Waterproof PVD are all excellent choices for keepsake quality.
Things to keep in mind:
• Sterling will tarnish and requires cleaning
• 14k Gold Fill is a beautiful PALE Gold
• PVD 316L aka Everyday Gold is more durable & affordable and is slightly more more WARM in tone. Hypoallergenic and tarnish resistant for daily wear from gym to beach.
If we are using brass or another metal (ie gold-plate) in a particular piece we will always mention it in the description.
All semi-precious stones and pearls are one of a kind and will arrive with its own uniqueness.
Necklace lengths kept in stock are 16-18-20 inches. Longer or custom lengths are available upon request.
WHAT IS 14k GOLD FILL (aka Demi-Fine)?
14k Gold-filled- Hypoallergenic jewelry contains a thick layer of gold bonded through a heating process to brass metal. Gold-filled jewelry legally has to contain 5% or 1/20 of gold by weight. 14k gold fill is more expensive and slightly paler in color than the more affordable PVD gold.
This means that your gold-filled pieces contain 100 times more gold in it than a gold-plated piece. These pieces should not turn or tarnish and can last for years.
When you aren’t wearing your pieces, seal them in an airtight space to prevent oxidation (ziplock bags work great).
- Clean them with gentle soap and water (dawn works).
- Polish your pieces with a Sunshine Polishing Cloth (link it)
WHAT IS PVD STAINLESS 316L (Everyday Gold jewelry)?
Everyday GOLD/ PVD
Hypoallergenic & Durable & Affordable
Designed for active ladies who like to leave their jewelry on 24/7. For those who want both style and strength, our Everyday Gold Collection features PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating for lasting beauty. This advanced process bonds a protective layer to stainless steel or brass, making it highly resistant to tarnish, fading, and wear. The result is durable, waterproof, hypoallergenic pieces with a brilliant finish that stays flawless.
JEWELRY CARE
Although 14k Gold-filled and sterling silver jewelry is the second most reliable jewelry to solid gold, there are some things that can speed up their aging process.
PVD on the other hand is quite durable from the gym to the beach.
In both cases, here is a list of some things to avoid:
- Chemicals in soaps, lotions, perfumes, etc. as they can build up
- Sweat, a person's individual bodily composition, and acidic levels. Everyone's body is different, some have higher acidic levels than others, and more potent sweat. This is just something to be aware of. However my customers have had good luck with their 14k gf jewelry. Sterling Silver is more sensitive to chemistry.
- Chlorine in pools and hot tubs and cause Oxidation, especially on your 14k gold fill & sterling silver pieces
